Privacy Policy
Anything you type into a calculator on this site stays in your browser and is never sent to us or to anyone else. We do not ask for your name or email, and there is no account to create. We do use Google Analytics to count visits, and that places cookies in your browser. This page explains both halves of that.
What you type into a calculator never leaves your device
Our calculators run as JavaScript in your own browser. Your salary, your filing status and any other figure you enter are processed on your device and are never transmitted, stored or logged anywhere. We hold no database of salaries because none is ever created.
This is not just a promise in a document. The site sends a Content Security Policy header that restricts outbound connections to a named list of analytics endpoints, and our automated test suite types a marker salary into the live calculator and inspects every outgoing request, URL and body, to confirm the figure does not appear. That test runs on the public site after every deployment.
What we do collect: Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-XK0HYXJH0E) to
understand how many people use the site and which pages they find useful. It is the only
third-party service loaded on this site.
What Google Analytics receives
- The page you viewed and when.
- The page or search engine that referred you.
- Your approximate location, derived from your IP address and typically resolved no more precisely than a city or region.
- Your device type, browser and screen size.
- A randomly generated identifier that lets Google recognize a repeat visit from the same browser.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser, principally _ga and a cookie of the
form _ga_<container-id>. They contain a random identifier, not your name, and
they exist so that two page views can be recognized as belonging to the same visit. They typically
expire after two years unless you delete them sooner. We set no cookies of our own for advertising
or profiling, and there is no login cookie because there is no login.
What Google Analytics does not receive
It does not receive anything you type into a calculator. Salary figures are never passed to the analytics layer as page data, event parameters or URL parameters. Nothing you enter is part of the page address, so nothing you enter can end up in an analytics report.
How to opt out
You can block analytics entirely and the calculators will still work. Any of the following is enough:
- Install Google’s official Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
- Use a browser that blocks third-party trackers by default, or a content blocker.
- Block or delete cookies for this site in your browser settings.
Nothing on this site is gated behind analytics. Blocking it costs you no functionality.
Server logs
The site is served as static files by our hosting provider, which keeps standard access logs for security and abuse prevention. We do not control the retention period of those logs and we do not use them for analytics or marketing.
Advertising
The site currently displays no advertising and loads no advertising script. We intend to show ads in the future, and when we do this page will be updated before the first ad goes live — naming the advertising network, what it collects and how to opt out. We will not quietly add an ad network and update the policy afterwards.
Children
This site is aimed at adults working out their pay. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Your rights
Because we do not collect names, email addresses or account data, we hold almost nothing that identifies you. Depending on where you live — for example under the GDPR in the European Economic Area or the UK, or the CCPA and CPRA in California — you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information a business holds about you, and to opt out of its sale or sharing.
We do not sell or share personal information, and we run no cross-context behavioral advertising. For the analytics data described above, the practical route is Google’s own controls and the opt-out options listed earlier, because Google, not us, holds it. If you want to reach us about any of this, use the contact page.
Changes to this policy
If our practices change, this page changes with them and the date below is updated. Material changes — adding an ad network, adding a form, adding any new third-party script — will be described here explicitly rather than folded into a general revision.
