Terms of Use
You may use these calculators freely, for your own purposes, at no cost and without an account. They are educational tools that produce estimates, not professional advice, and you use them at your own risk. There is nothing to sign and no data of yours for us to hold.
1. Agreement
By using statelinecalc.com (“the site”) you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. There is no account to close and nothing to cancel; closing the page ends the arrangement.
2. What the site is
The site publishes free calculators and reference information about take-home pay, payroll withholding and taxes in the United States. Everything on it is general information for educational purposes.
3. What the site is not
Nothing here is financial, tax, accounting or legal advice. Using the site creates no professional relationship of any kind between you and us. We are not accountants, tax preparers, attorneys or financial advisers. For a decision that matters — negotiating a salary, filing a return, moving between states, setting your withholding — consult a qualified professional licensed in your jurisdiction.
4. Estimates, not exact figures
Our calculators apply published tax rates to the figures you enter, using the assumptions set out on the methodology page: one job, the standard deduction, wage income only. They do not model itemized deductions, tax credits, pre-tax retirement or health contributions, multiple jobs, non-wage income, or local and city taxes. Your employer’s actual withholding and your final tax liability will very likely differ from our result.
5. Accuracy and currency of rates
We take the accuracy of our figures seriously: each rate is read from an official source and published with the date it was checked. Even so, tax law changes, agencies revise published rates, and mistakes are possible. We do not warrant that the information on the site is complete, current or error-free. Where our figure and an official source disagree, the official source is correct and ours is a defect — please tell us.
6. Use at your own risk
The site is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage — including lost income, lost savings, tax penalties, interest, or any indirect, incidental, consequential or punitive damages — arising out of your use of, or reliance on, the site or anything on it. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, in which case those limitations apply to the maximum extent the law allows.
8. Acceptable use
You may use the site for your own personal or internal business purposes, and you may link to any page on it. You may not:
- attempt to interfere with, overload or disrupt the site or its infrastructure;
- use automated means to scrape the site at a rate that degrades it for other people;
- republish our pages wholesale as if they were your own;
- present our results as certified, official or professionally reviewed figures.
9. Intellectual property
The text, page structure, design and calculator code on the site belong to StateLine Calc. The underlying tax rates and thresholds do not belong to anyone — they are public facts published by government agencies, and you are free to use them. Short quotations with a link back to the page are welcome.
10. Third-party links
Some pages link to government agencies and other outside sites. We link to them because they are the source of a figure or are useful, not because we control them. We are not responsible for their content, availability or practices.
11. Advertising
The site displays no advertising today. We intend to introduce it. If and when we do, ads will be identifiable as ads and will not be placed above a calculator or styled to resemble calculator results, and the privacy policy will be updated before the first ad appears.
12. Privacy
What we collect, and what we deliberately do not, is set out in the privacy policy. In short: figures you type into a calculator never leave your browser; we use Google Analytics to count page views.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The current version always sits at this address with its date below. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws applicable where the site is operated, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing here limits any rights you have under mandatory consumer protection law in the place where you live.
15. Contact
Questions about these terms, or a correction to report, go through the contact page.
